WHAT: WHEN: STUDIO: PRICE: | The Bridge on the River Kwai (Blu-Ray / DVD Combo) November 2nd Sony Pictures Retail: $34.99, Our: $27.99 | |
Previously released several times in a standard version, The Bridge on the River Kwai now gets Blu treatment as Sony has scheduled a November 2nd release date for a Blu-Ray / DVD combo pack Collector's Edition.
Most of the bonus features (below) will carry over from the previous standard Limited Edition, with three new features exclusive to the Blu-Ray disc.
Retail will be $34.99, but it is available at ClassicFlix.com for only $27.99.
NOTE: When standard DVDs are part of a Blu-Ray / DVD combo pack, we usually stick to only renting the Blu-Ray from the new release and use the previously released standard DVD for non-Blu rentals. However, in this case, because of the likely upgraded standard DVD, we're renting the second DVD in this set as well.
SYNOPSIS:
When British POWs build a vital railway bridge in enemy-occupied Burma, Allied commandos are assigned to destroy it in David Lean's epic World War II adventure The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Spectacularly produced, The Bridge on the River Kwai captured the imagination of the public and won seven 1957 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Alec Guinness), and Best Director. Even it's theme song, an old WWII whistling tune, the Colonel Bogey March, became a massive hit. The Bridge on the River Kwai continues today as one of the most memorable cinematic experiences of all time.
NOTE: This is a Blu-Ray / DVD Combo pack. Disc 1 is a Blu-Ray disc, disc 2 is a standard disc.
