UNIVERSAL BLOWS LID OFF VAULT: 12 New on DVD

We knew it was coming, but didn't know how much or how fast. Now comes word that Universal has opened up there vault to M.O.D. (Manufactured on Demand) in a big way.

Formally announcing their partnership with TCM to trickle a couple of titles a month at TCM.com as part of the TCM Vault series, they've now formed an exclusive partnership with Amazon for their new Universal Vault series.

Ruggles of Red Gap (1935), Spawn of the North (1938) and The House of Seven Gables (1940) are just some of the titles. Lots of Tony Curtis too. All 12 titles can be found HERE in the Recent Additions section.

They are now available for rent at ClassicFlix... and nowhere else!

We've also created a link in the Browse by Collection section to make it easier to find this new series.

No word if they'll ever be available for broad retail or here at ClassicFlix, but we were informed by our contacts at Universal that a press release from Amazon should come next week.

The pricing is in line with Warner's Archive Collection at $20 a pop -- all the more reason to rent if you're not already a member.

  1. Did your contacts say anything about the "Backlot Series"? With two MOD programs it certainly looks like abandoning retail releases in favor of MOD discs.

  2. There are plans for backlot, but nothing is sold. No clue as to what titles either.
