VCI has set an October 20th release date for the Douglas Sirk directed Summer Storm (1944). It stars Linda Darnell, George Sanders, Anna Lee and Edward Everett Horton.

It will retail for $14.99, but is available at ClassicFlix.com for only $10.99.

SYNOPSIS:
It’s a tale of power and passions when a Russian siren (Linda Darnell), who wants the finer things in life, sinks her hooks into a judge (George Sanders), a decadent aristocrat (Edward Everett Horton) and an estate superintendent (Hugo Haas), with surprising results. Fine direction by master auteur Douglas Sirk (Imitation of Life, 1959) and an Oscar-nominated score highlight this adaptation of the Anton Chekhov drama “The Shooting Party.”

WARNER ARCHIVE: Some Out, Some In - Maybe...

Sometimes you just shake head. It isn't bad enough that Warner's WBShop is as slow as molasses on a cold day, but they can't even keep their database straight as they've again removed titles that were listed briefly on their site.

I'm referring to the ten Warner Archive titles we listed yesterday (HERE). WBShop has now removed all ten from their site. This is not the first time this has happened. It happened with a wave in the spring, and also with Mammy. The spring wave came back a few weeks later, while Mammy has yet to reappear.

We'll still have them on the site and available to put in your queue with the expectation that they'll come back soon.

There are 7 new titles listed on their site, but we'll wait a few days before we enter them in the database to give Warner time to make up their minds.

WARNER ARCHIVE: 10 More in Silent, Comedy and Western Wave

A new wave of Warner Archive tiltes are up for pre-order at WBShop and are also available for rent at ClassicFlix. They include five silents, three 60's comedies and two 50's westerns.

Among the silents are three Joan Crawford films, including Across to Singapore (1928), and the two-strip Technicolor film The Viking (1928) starring Donald Crisp starring Leif Ericsson.

Also available is the Rosalind Russell, Alec Guiness Comedy A Majority of One (1961) and the Joel McCrea bio-pic of Sam Houston The First Texan (1956).

All 10 new releases are listed HERE in the Recent Additions section.

Infinity Entertainment has announced The Judy Garland Show, Vol. 2 with a September 22nd release date. This volume (with two episodes), continues with stars like The Smothers Brothers, Ethel Merman, Jane Powell, Ray Bolger (Her Oz Co-Star) and series regular Jerry Van Dyke

Restored and digitally remastered from the original masters, the single disc release will retail for $19.99, but is available at ClassicFlix.com for only $14.99.

STREET DATE CHANGE AND ADDED FEATURES: A Walk in the Sun

VCI has pushed back the release date for A Walk in the Sun (Restored Collector's Edition) to November 24th. However, the wait should be worth it. Additional time is needed for the restoration process and for an additional bonus feature (The Fighting Men of the Texas Division Featurette).

Another added feature will be optional English subtitles. A feature that is rare for smaller labels.

VCI has announced what will be the definitive edition of a film that has languished in PD releases too numerous to count.

A Walk in the Sun (Restored Collector's Edition) will street on August 25th with a new digitally restored and remastered transfer. Bonus features include a video interview with Norman Lloyd and the original theatrical trailer.

It will retail for $14.99, but is available at ClassicFlix.com for only $10.99.

SYNOPSIS:
During the World War II Allied invasion of Italy, one of the ranking officers is killed after the platoon lands on the beach. Now Sgt.Tyne (Dana Andrews) must take over and lead the troops. The film is noted for its attempt to portray the infantryman’s experience realistically, in particular the banter and mid-1940s slang.

This WWII film was the first to use a ballad as a thematic element, a practice which, after High Noon,
would become a cliche of the 1950s. One of the best WWII films, A Walk in the Sun combines documentary-like sequences with a sharp awareness of the isolation of each soldier in the midst of
battle.
