Olive Films has announced a November 13th release date for Film Noir Collection, Vol. 1 (Blu-Ray) which includes Rope of Sand (1949), Dark City (1950), Union Station (1950) and Appointment with Danger (1951).

All four, previously released as singles on DVD, will only be available in this 4-disc collection.

Retail will be $89.95, but it's available at ClassicFlix.com for only $69.99.


Rope of Sand (1949)
After a two-year hiatus, Mike Davis (Burt Lancaster) returns to the same African city where he was tortured and left for dead at the hands of a sadistic Police Commandant (Paul Henreid).

Originally innocent of all charges, Mike is back to claim the diamonds he had supposedly stolen two years ago. He enlists the help of an alcoholic stranger (Peter Lorre) and the doctor (Sam Jaffe), who had helped him back to health. The diamond syndicate head (Claude Rains) recruits a nightclub temptress Suzanne Renaud (Corinne Calvet) to seduce and betray Mike as an alternate to brute force.

Dark City (1950)
After losing his company’s $5,000 cashier's check in a crooked card game, a stranger in Chicago commits suicide. The group of gamblers, with Danny Haley (Charlton Heston) as a member, worries about the dangers of cashing the check, but this becomes the least of their worries when the head of the group is found hanged. Police Captain Garvey (Dean Jagger) concludes the hanging to be a case of homicide and discovers that the stranger had a mentally deranged brother who is out to avenge his brother’s death. Fran (Lizabeth Scott), a torch singer desperately in love with Danny, begs him to runaway with her.

This classic film noir also features the stars of Dragnet, Jack Webb and Harry Morgan, as Danny’s gambling partners.

Union Station (1950)
Returning to the city from her wealthy employer residence, Joyce Willecombe (Nancy Olson), spots two armed men on the train. She reports them to the conductor who radios in to the Station’s police. Once at Union station she points out the men to Lt. William Calhoun (William Holden), head of the station’s police squad and they find out that the gunmen are members of a gang who have kidnapped her employer’s blind daughter and are seeking a $100,000 ransom.

The Chicago police headed by inspector Donnelly (Barry Fitzgerald), and the FBI are both called in. The action in this classic Film Noir culminates in a chase through the station’s underground tunnels.

Appointment with Danger (1951)
Postal Inspector Al Goddard (Alan Ladd) is assigned to investigate the murder of a fellow officer. The only witness to the crime is Sister Augustine (Phyllis Calvert), who identifies the photograph of one of the assailants. This leads Goddard to a seedy hotel where he learns that the assailant is a member of a gang headed by Earl Boettiger (Paul Stewart), and he soon discovers that the gang is planning a million dollar mail robbery.

This classic film noir also features the stars of Dragnet, Jack Webb and Harry Morgan, as Stewart’s Henchmen. This was Alan Ladd’s final Film Noir.

Joan Crawford (Mildred Pierce, 1945) is at her conniving and devious best as the Southern socialite who manipulates the lives of those around her with tragic results. The poster art screamed, "One female alone may be the queen bee. The other females serve only to sacrifice themselves while tending the queen bee or defending her. The males of the species exist only to serve the queen's pleasure…" and who better to exact the role than Crawford?

Eva Phillips (Crawford) is married to Avery (Barry Sullivan), a wealthy mill owner who has been driven to drink and bitterness by Eva's ruthless, self-seeking machinations and frank infidelity. Based on the famous cartoon strip by Chester Gould. This was the initial entry of the Dick Tracy serials from Republic Pictures in 1937. In this super thriller, a clubfooted criminal known only as the Lame One masterminds a war on G-men. One of his villainous plans is to destroy the new Bay Bridge (which looks suspiciously like the Golden Gate) by bombarding it with high-frequency sound waves from his stratospheric aircraft, “The Wing”. In the meantime, Dick Tracy’s brother is kidnapped and forced to aid the notorious Lame One, who turns out to be…?

This serial features fistfights, car chases and aerial stunts as only Republic Pictures could stage them. For lovers of serial thrills and action, Dick Tracy really delivers the goods.

It's been a long time coming, but My Favorite Martian - Season 3 will be released on October 30th.

Season 2 was released by Rhino way back in 2005 and the series has been in limbo ever since. Now, it has been picked up by MPI for its third and final season (when it switced to color).

SYNOPSIS:
My Favorite Martian marked the beginning of television's fascination with fantasy themed comedy series, originally airing on CBS-TV from 1963 to 1966.

Debuting in the top ten upon its premiere season, My Favorite Martian stars Bill Bixby (The Courtship Of Eddie's Father) as newspaper reporter Tim O'Hara and Ray Walston (Picket Fences) as the Martian whom Tim discovers and passes off as his Uncle Martin. Pamela Britton plays their snoopy landlady, Lorelei Brown.

The hit series switched to color in its third and final season, presented here on DVD for the first time. Charles Joseph Parrott of Baltimore, Maryland started out in vaudeville during the rough and tumble days in the first decade of the 20th century. Exactly 100 years ago this year, this young man fresh off the stage, started working at the Christie Film Company. During the next decade he worked as a juvenile lead, a gag writer and a comedy director. When he changed his name to Charley Chase and found himself featured in the Hal Roach s short comedies, he became one of the great geniuses and stars of Hollywood s golden era of silent comedy.

As renowned as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd at the time, Chase easily matched them laugh for laugh. The always-dapper Chase specialized in portraying the pleasant common man with very common skills placed in the most uncommon of circumstances.

Chase's best performances at the Roach studio were directed by the legendary Leo McCarey (Make Way for Tomorrow, Duck Soup) and featured great character actors of the day including Bull Montana, Max Davidson and the lovely Katherine Grant. Years in the making, this amazing Charley Chase collection features more than five hours of comic masterpieces from the height of Chase's career.

Last year, E1 Entertainment released It Takes a Thief - The Complete Series as an 18-disc boxed set. As it was cost-prohibitive, we did not carry it.

Now comes word that they have decided to issue single season sets beginning with It Takes a Thief - Season 1 on October 2nd. We have therefore added it to our selection.

The retail price for the 5-disc set is $39.98, and will be available at ClassicFlix for only $29.99. However, for three days only (until August 9th) we will have it for the special pre-order price of $24.98.
